15pt New Player Steamroller @ Chelmsford Bunker 10/10/2012

Ran my first small New Player Steamroller last night.

To qualify you had to have started playing Warmachine / Hordes in the last twelve months.

Three games of 15pts, using the Incursion scenario.

The result sheet is below:

-->
Position Name Faction Tournament Points Strength of Schedule Control Points Kills Points
1 Harvey Barrington Mercs 3 5 0 34
2 Steve Last Cryx 2 6 2 30
3 Alex Clarke Skorne 2 5 4 19
4 Mark E Cryx 2 4 5 12
5 Dave Downs Menoth 1 5 2 17
6 Luke Henderson Khador 1 5 2 32
7 Boyd Fletcher Legion 1 5 0 14

Congratulations to H-Bomb and his tier 3 Shea assassination list, it performed admirably and killed all three of his opponents casters without worrying about such trivia as Control Points :-)

Steamroller certificates were dished out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I hope to run a similar event in 2013 if we have enough new blood in the next twelve months.

Tanelorn hordes event at Table Top Nation 6/10/2012

Went to the Tanelorn hordes event at Table Top Nation yesterday and ran pLylyth for all four matches.

First game LOSS vs Circle (Jack or Tom H?) with Mohsar beast heavy list - scenario GAUNTLET 35pts. This was for the Circle home base and so he had an addition 3" place as well as the stones. Zero chance of an assassination run with Mohsar hiding all game. He got off the alpha strike and pLylyth bit the dust.

My list:
pLylyth
Scythean
Seraph
Stingers x2
Shreader
Swordsmen (min) + UA
Striders + UA
Shepherd

Second game LOSS vs Skorne (Tim Lawrence) with pMorghoul beast very heavy list - scenario INCURSION 35pts. Skorne home base and so he got some bonus or other (can't remember what). Lost to a turn two assassination of pLylyth. It took everything Morghoul, a Titan and an Archidon had but finally his last roll, needing a ten on two dice put me down. Had I not died then I would have more than likely killed Morghoul next turn. Record of 0-2 after two games.

My list was the same as for game one.

Game three WIN vs Minions (missed his name  ) with Barnabus ( ) - scenario FLAG TOO FAR 35pts + 7pts reinforcements. This is a horrendous match up for pLylyth with most of my range stuff having very limited targets. However, his over reliance on Spiny Growth over Swamp Pit and the fact I included the Scythean and Swordsmen to help with this kind of match up, allowed me to grab a victory by the tertiary win condition. I had my Shepherd on a flag and he had nothing, so I won 1-0. I had reduced his army to just Barnabus and 2 Gatormen, while I had lost the Nephilim plus only half the Swordmen and Striders, and so would have felt robbed to lose this match.

List as above but with Death Stalker and Nephilim Soldier as reinforcements.

Game four WIN vs Trolls (Jon Webb) with pDoomy beast heavy - Scenario SACRIFICE 50pts. Completely bonkers scenario. Jon almost won in turn three but his trample didn't have enough distance to engage the last two fearless Swordsmen. Typhon ate Mulg and then everything opened up on pDoomy who was under Parasite. He died on the last roll of my turn after already making four tough rolls. Had he made the fifth tough roll then the game would have been won by Jon on objectives next turn.

List as for match one and two with the addition of Typhon and the Swordsmen now at MAX.

So overall I finished 2-2, which I am well happy with considering how the day started.

The event finished with Legion winning, then Circle, Skorne and Trolls last.

I got a little gift voucher for winning and used it to get another Forsaken for the Absylonia tier list.

Great event and great venue. Lunch was provided by Gary Moore (of TTN) and was fantastic!

Hope they run another in 2013, maybe it will be Warmachine again next year rather than Hordes.
